MUSIC PERFORMANCES

"The Happiest Days of My Life"

On the morning of my penultimate day at the cabin, I accidentally wrote a song. That night, to stave off the crippling depression of my last night at the cabin, I decided to record the whole song. Since I had no time to actually arrange the song, I just did one or two improvisational takes on each instrument and filmed it for y'all.

This video will always make me smile. The process of recording that song allowed me to turn what would have been sorrowful self-pity into ebullient joy.

Thanks, song.

"Painfully Majestic"

I tried doing this video during a sunset when I was staying at the Joshua Tree cabin alone, but it ended up being too windy and too stiff (being stuck on a tripod). So, when I visited my bro while he was staying at the cabin, I asked him if we could do this. It's raw, one take, just like the sunset itself.

"My One & Only Love "

This is one of my most artistically ambitious videos so far. The peacefulness of this song evokes a calming grace that is similar to what I get out of my surroundings here. It's by no means a perfect performance.

"2 Minute Version of the Joshua Tree Documentary"

I just thought it would be easy fun to round up a couple seconds from every episode and put it all to music. It's a high-octane ride on the nostalgia-coaster. I didn't really hand pick important moments, just me saying random crap. Check out how much my hair grows from beginning to end.

"The Hi-Lo Challenge"

As foreshadowed in the "Hi Lo Challenge" EPISODE of the documentary, I resolved to make a Hi-Lo Challenge song by playing the first thing that came out after drinking coffee and smoking. Here she is.

"If I Were a Bell"

This is me practicing my jazz piano, playing a song from out of "The Real Book." I try and put a story behind the song, even if it's a complete mismatch. There's also some bonus footage here.

"All of Me "

This is me chart-reading an old standard from my jazz book. The solos and alternate melodies are pure Patrick, though.

"Start Somewhere"

This recording was made at Pink E's in Colorado circa St. Patrick's Day of 2005. Continuous Play performs a TASTY version of "Start Somewhere", a song written and sung by Xenox Garavito (www.xenox.net), with George Carrillo on drums, and Patrick Tyrrell (www.thatpatrick.com) on guitar.

"Love Alone" (mostly just the jam)

This is Continuous Play getting saucy then simmering, orgasmic then cuddly, ethereal then funky with a long jam on the back end of their song "Love Alone". The song is written and sung by Patrick Tyrrell (www.thatpatrick.com), with Xenox Garavito on bass (www.xenox.net) and George Carrillo Jr. on drums.

Make sure you play it through real speakers or headphones so you can hear the bass! It was recorded at Pink E's in Colorado a day before St. Patrick's day of 2005.
